Out with the Old and In with the New

EntryWay2Out with the old and in with the new!

When we first moved into our house, the first thing we did was paint. PAINT EVERYTHING… well almost everything. The colors in our house were a mix of old southern meets vintage Jamaican. Not so much our style and definitely did not go with our furniture. We wanted a space that was bright and cherry and FULL of color!

Our first real project came with our entry way. We have these beautiful hardwood floors and amazing columns but the Princess Peach paint seemed to drown out the space. The lovely chandler didn’t stand out and the front door looked like a blank space that I just wanted to write my name in a la Taylor Swift style.

This became our game plan:

First thing we did was to brighten up the space by replacing the peach with a white classic paint. Not just any white, Designer White (paint names always make me laugh). It’s amazing how with that one step brought so much light into the space. The hardwood floors no longer looked red but a rich brown color and the chandelier finally had it’s time to shine!

I finally got my hands on that blank space of a door and painted it a very rich olive green color. I wanted to make a statement without over doing it. I had this great little rug I found at Target a couple of years ago that was just dying for a spot and then we added some fun artwork, one of my Home Sweet Home Prints (you can find it here) and a DIY project of Ireland (our favorite place other than home).

The difference was just night and day, even those these two pictures where taken at the same time of day, it is so much brighter looking in our entry way hallway, not to mention a little less vintage tropical.

And for a final touch, a little flare, I had a custom made vinyl decal from Urban Walls made with one of my favorite quotes from one of our favorite movies: “I hate goodbyes”! Always good for a little laugh on the way out!

I also just noticed the rug is different…. I don’t know who changed it but it wasn’t me.
