organize your desktop

I’m pretty old fashioned when it comes to organization. I like my folders, my paper, pens, forms, subfolders, cabinets…. you get it. I’m not very good at digital organization. I can’t even remember where I save things half the time (not so good for when I’m on a design deadline). One thing that really helps me out is naming everything as literal as I can and creating lots of folders. Even just for one piece of work.

What helps even more is having a separation between work and play. I have main folder just called Mine! and all the rest are for Designs, Flourish and Hope and Photography. I can at least have a starting point. And if it’s extremely important, it get’s its own special spot on the desktop.

Which leads me to my latest design project just for moi and one other lucky person, because I believe organization and design should be shared.

In order to organize this digital space of mine, I decided to start where I begin. My desktop. I needed to have a space on my desktop for all my folders that I use the most, but I didn’t want to lose the personalization of a photo.

I began to look for some inspiration and found some really cute ones like this one from the blog, Her and Nicole,

Super cute, modern, and I love the simplistic style.

And this one from Serendipitous Things.

The calendar is a fantastic idea and I love having a good quote. Chalkboard backgrounds are also super chic!

And this one from One July Living is so awesome.

There are so many places to store important folders and the bright colors are right up my alley. So cute. I can’t get enough of her “this & that” space.

There are so many amazing desktop organization designs by so many talented designers, but I felt that for me, I need to design my own while keeping in with my own style and adding a little bit of me flair. I cooked up something that I not only helps me stay organized but motivated as well.

Here is my final design.

Now, I have spots for my the shop, the blog and for all my other personal stuff. Not to mention a pic of my stud of a husband reminding me that no matter what family comes first.

And now because I love to share, I am offering to make one of my readers who I am blessed with, one of their own desktop background organization stations!

So what do you say? Let me organize your desktop.

Just comment below saying what your halloween costume is and I will pick someone at random!

Since Andy doesn’t really love dressing up very much, I figured I’d let him off the hook and do something simple (if we even end up going to any Halloween parties, that is)…

He can dress up as a teenager and be Andy from Toy Story, while I dress up as a variation of Woody/Jessie in a cowboy-ish outfit with “ANDY” (in child-like handwriting and the “N” written backwards, of course) written on the bottom of my boot.

What are you dressing up as?

I love this! What a cute idea!!! My Andy doesn’t really dress up either, unless you count a t-shirt that has a pirate shirt on it. Super lame. I’m going as a skeleton. It’s glow in the dark… it’s pretty neat! Em

I have never thought about organizing my digital desktop like this… and it’s genius!
I don’t really do Halloween (whomp whooomp). The last time I did dress up, my husband and I found a 5-minute couples costume idea: he wore a letter “E”, I wore a giant paperclip made of cardboard and aluminum foil, and together we were an E-Mail Attachment. Ha! Terrible pun, I know 🙂

Haha that’s hilarious! I love it! We have never really done a couples costume but I have always wanted to.
