Around Here Lately
Around Here Lately
We were so late getting our cards out this year… in fact we still have some sitting waiting for addresses.
I am so embarrassed.
But you know what, it’s ok! The fact that I get up each morning and remember to shower, get dressed, and show up for the day is nothing short a miracle these past few weeks.
We have had such a big year and I am so sorry if I missed getting a card out to you! We “lost” our address book in the move and if we have forgotten you, please know that we didn’t mean to! We love you all so dearly!
But in case you were one of the few we didn’t actually pen a card to, or your card got lost in the mail, or the fact that it is still waiting for a stamp or you just can’t wait till yours come to you, I thought I would share this year’s Christmas-that became our New Years Card!
We have so much to share, make sure you check it out below!
Love you all!

Flourish and Hope and Emilie Marian Designs is combining into one and getting so fancy!
I have been thinking for a while that Flourish and Hope encompasses all that I do, not just this space where I can share and dream, but also the work that I love to do, design.
So much of the two, blog and shop, intertwine, that I felt the two should be as one. So along with that comes a new look.
Fresh, Simple and Clean.
I wanted a look that expressed my love of design while appreciating the beauty of type, expression and the mix of old world and edge.
A little bit of style with some rock and roll.
See the new looks on:
I’m pretty old fashioned when it comes to organization. I like my folders, my paper, pens, forms, subfolders, cabinets…. you get it. I’m not very good at digital organization. I can’t even remember where I save things half the time (not so good for when I’m on a design deadline). One thing that really helps me out is naming everything as literal as I can and creating lots of folders. Even just for one piece of work.
What helps even more is having a separation between work and play. I have main folder just called Mine! and all the rest are for Designs, Flourish and Hope and Photography. I can at least have a starting point. And if it’s extremely important, it get’s its own special spot on the desktop.
Which leads me to my latest design project just for moi and one other lucky person, because I believe organization and design should be shared.
In order to organize this digital space of mine, I decided to start where I begin. My desktop. I needed to have a space on my desktop for all my folders that I use the most, but I didn’t want to lose the personalization of a photo.
I began to look for some inspiration and found some really cute ones like this one from the blog, Her and Nicole,
Super cute, modern, and I love the simplistic style.
And this one from Serendipitous Things.
The calendar is a fantastic idea and I love having a good quote. Chalkboard backgrounds are also super chic!
And this one from One July Living is so awesome.
There are so many places to store important folders and the bright colors are right up my alley. So cute. I can’t get enough of her “this & that” space.
There are so many amazing desktop organization designs by so many talented designers, but I felt that for me, I need to design my own while keeping in with my own style and adding a little bit of me flair. I cooked up something that I not only helps me stay organized but motivated as well.
Here is my final design.
Now, I have spots for my the shop, the blog and for all my other personal stuff. Not to mention a pic of my stud of a husband reminding me that no matter what family comes first.
And now because I love to share, I am offering to make one of my readers who I am blessed with, one of their own desktop background organization stations!
So what do you say? Let me organize your desktop.
Just comment below saying what your halloween costume is and I will pick someone at random!

It’s been a long time since I have done a giveaway! I feel like it’s time to spread the love and some good old fashioned organization. I love to be organized, do you? Although, if you had a look at my room where I am staying right now you may not agree. I am currently living out of 5 suitcases and it has gotten ugly!
So here is what I’m giving away!
One Weekly Calendar Notepad or One Work Flow Notepad. The winner gets to choose! And just in case you aren’t sure what I am talking about, here are some pictures!

These past couple of days I have been having so much fun designing some sweet new additions to the shop. I can’t wait to show them to you!
Whether you are going back to school or just need some fun new “school” supplies, you can find them here! Including some brand, brand new items like weekly calendars, mouse pads, and tote bags! You can find them all here at, Emilie Marian Designs and you can see a sneak peek below, but make sure you do check them out in the shop because not all the colors are shown below.
I am also going to offer Résumé Designs as well after I had so many people ask me about mine in this post here.
O man. The job search. It is just not fun.
I have been actively searching for about 3 months and there are moments when I just want to throw in the towel and move back home. It can be so frustrating when you apply and never hear back… ah. Talk about a kick to the self confidence. There have been several times where I have found the “perfect” job and am so sure that I will hear back and then nothing. I feel like I am being broken up with over and over again…”It’s not me, it’s you.”
I have usually been very blessed with finding jobs. I haven’t had to go through the heart ache of feeling unemployable until now, and I am so thankful for that. But since moving to DC, I have wanted to find a career in the area in which my degree is in, Communications, with a Social Media aspect or to work within a creative market. In other cities, it may be easier to find these jobs, but in a city where it is all about WHO you know rather than WHAT you know… it can be more than a struggle.
We have lived here for a little over a year and we have meet some incredible people, and so many of them have offered to pass my résumé around but I always feel a little apprehensive asking friends to do this. I want them to realize our friendship is special to me and I don’t want to use them just as a job connection. So, sweet friends, if you have done this for me, thank you! I can not say that enough!
So what now? Well, I’m glad you have stuck around long enough because this is when it gets fun.
When I sat back and thought about a way to make myself get noticed, the first thing I could really think of was changing up my résumé. Give it a little pop and a facelift.
Like any good researcher, I hit the google search for fun résumés. You guys! I’m telling you, I so wished I had gotten my degree in graphic design. I had so much fun looking through all these fun designs. Some people put their résumés on milk cartons, t-shirts and more. You can purchase a template and have someone put your résumé together or design one yourself like I did.
Now, I have just recently done this, and I don’t know if it will work but I have faith and hope that the right person will see it and want to meet me. Is this what internet dating feels like? This is scary.
Here are some of my favorites and you can see a peek of mine too. Most of these are for design jobs and would not be suitable for other professions, but they are so fun!
Let me know what you think! Are updating résumés the new black? (PS you should check out Orange is the New Black on Netflix, so funny!)
These are Résumés you can actually purchase from Loft Resumes. There are a lot of templates to choose from; these two are my favorites but there are ones that are super traditional to a little more edgier.
These are also templates you can purchase where the graphic designer actually inputs all your info in for you! She is super talented an also has a lot to choose from. I love bright colors so these are speaking my language. See more at 23 & 9 Creative.
These next few are just a few of the many fun resumes out there by very talented people for themselves. They are amazing!
And mine! Don’t worry, that isn’t what I really put as our address…
I am so, so excited to announce these new gold foil prints have arrived to the shop!
They are so beautiful. I have already put mine into frames and have them hung up in the apartment. They would look so good in any home.
Check these lovely ladies out!
